Makka Pro Back in Yallahs for 2018

MAKKA PRO BACK IN YALLAHS FOR DECEMBER 29-30!!!

The world famous Jamaican surfing event, the “Makka Pro” will take off once again on December 29-30 at the “Makka” surfing beach in Southaven, Yallahs Saint Thomas, after a 2-year haitus to the Palisadoes strip where the event was held at the “Wreck” surfing beach, one of the islands oldest surfing locations.

When asked the reason for the two year break from the parish, JSA President Wilmot expounded saying “Makka  surfing beach is only one of many surfing locations we have in Jamaica. The vision the JSA has  is one where surfing energizes the alternat tourism prospects with many surfing events being hosted by various sponsors all around our eastern seaboard throughout the year. So the move to the Palisadoes was part of that effort to highlight and promote the fact that Jamaica has many world class surfing locations.”

When asked the reason for the return to Saint Thomas this year, Mr Wilmot smiled and said, “Boy, the people of Saint Thomas say Di surfing a fi wi ting… and they are all calling for the event to return to its… Rightful home!”

This years Makka Pro will also be the second stop on the newly established 2018-19 Caribbean Surf Circuit’s four event series to crown a Caribbean Surfing Champion. The others being the recently concluded “Independence Pro” in Barbados, T&T’s “Tobago Pro” and the French Caribbeans “Martinique Pro”. The surfer who amasses the most points from their best 3 finishes from the 4 events will be crowned the Caribbean Surf Circuit’s “Caribbean Champion”. As a result of this fact, the event is expected to attract more athletes from Barbados, Trinidad, Martinique and around the region.

Long time Makka Pro Partner the Jamaica Tourist Board is on board again this year. With surfing being accepted into the 2020 Olympic Games the sports profile is steadily climbing. More and more enthusiasts join the global community each year and as a legitimate surfing destination, Jamaica stands to benifit from the alternate tourism opportunities that this will open up to Jamaica’s south east coast in particular and the county of Surrey generally.

“The event is set to be legendary…” said Mr Wilmot ”… with Makka beach under pressure to deliver its best waves and our surfers to defend Jamaican surfing honor”.

Besides top class surfing action the two day event will feature the usual attractions including, music, food, refreshments, the Sun Land Kiddies Village, prizes and surprizes and celebration after party!
